Invisionfree can handle ALOT more than you guys think. Look at IFSZ they have around 200,000 members.

So what?

We have 2,000,000 members.

This board loads quickly, runs fairly smoothly, and handles (roughly) an ass load of traffic. I'm quite impressed with it actually. It's not flashy but it's functional.

You know, that "2005" below is just text that indicates a copyright - it isn't related to the actual build of the forums. The current build of BlamDotNet (bungie.net in totality) is 2.12.18.509 - (.net 2, build 509, built on december 18th).

And our forum module is essentially a fork from their code base - we have been drastically altering it as needed. For example, we built our own search engine, and don't use the one that Ideal created. The bookmarks feature is ours too. The banning tools are ours. etc.

They may have similar features, but we pretty much only use the stuff directly related to posting, viewing, and moderating. That core is very good at what it does, though.

I have a question when the forums will need an upgrade?

When I read number 5 and 6, it was like he was rapping.

Awesome talent there. Someone should hire him and his mad rhyming skillz.

Ask the moapers, I have 1337-er skillz than that. On a side note, I would like to see a line of Moderator shirts, though I doubt they would sell well.

Bah! He calls himself a real man, but the only points he got right were 1, 2 and 10!

Thanks to Achronos for enlightening us, B/FTW.

MIdas touch, whenever I see your name, I instinctively think of this

Back on topic. This forum is a lot cleaner than other forums. All member information is nicely hidden in a link to their profile, as opposed to spread all over the title bar. Their sig is forcibly limited to a manageable size. Pictures are not allowed; a very good thing when you think about the size of this. Actually, custom avatars are almost always annoying, to say nothing of pictures in sigs. The Navbar is a nice feature, because it can be shrinked, yet always reached. They post the text markups in an unobtrusive spot (maybe too unobtrusive, most people never use links), but a good one.

Compared to other forums, you have a random navbar docked on the top that is way to large and cluttered with pictures, stupid custom avatars, and stuff I really don't need to know, such as how many posts a user has made. They also have a random feel, even to the form list. Stickies look almost completely indistinct from other threads, and they're all in one boring color.

If I were to make my own forums, I would model it after bungie.net. Except for minor fixes (which have been steadily added, i.e. bookmarks), bungie.net is awesome. My only suggestion would be to make the topic bar smaller. Maybe 1 at the top of each page. The Date Posted information could replace the Last Post information, and I've rarely seen a good reason for people to "change" the topic in the middle of a thread. Other than that, bungie.net is infinitely better than other forums. Actually, bungie.net has the smallest topic bar I've seen in the forums I visit, so it is the best.

Heh, I love the quote on the case study.

"...we were able to create a better product than either of us would alone."

In other words, "Thanks for your codebase, Ideal, but our need for an uber website of doom is greater than even you can provide. So, I'm, like, gonna use meh uber1337 codin' skillz on it and make it better and stuff, mkay?"

O_o

You missed a most necessary comma for that particular usage of the word "efficient" in that sentance.

Tsk tsk.

So I would have to agree, you indeed do not keep within yourself the skill necessary to declair yourself all that you just asked of him to state as false. Furthermore, your use of old English contexts while discussing matters which are beyond the proper descriptions of said word usages is overly exerting on the average person whome frequents these forums and thus is more of a show of force, a primitive beating of the chest to state that you are superior and that he whome you are answering is less than you.

I find it refreshing to once again see such behavour among the Moderators, for it has been a long time passed since I last observed such a show. Encore!

Now I am interested in how vast the changes to the forum will be when The New Hotness 2.0 is released, as well as anything that may happen to the groups or our profiles when the changes take place.

But I trust that the new form/website will continue in traditional Bungie fashon of learing from past mistakes and adding a few more awsome things on top.
