Subject: Limitations...

I was just wondering why we are limited so much on Bungie.net. I mean these forums are one of a kind, but why limit us so much? This is one of the only forums anywhere that you cant upload your own avatar, you have to be real tricky just to embed an image, and we cant use color inside posts and threads... just to name a few.

Just wondering...

These have been brought up a lot, and shot down just as often. My turn!

* Custom Avatars: Lots of idiotic members would upload rude/obscene images. Many B.net users are kids. You do the math.
* Images in posts: see above.
* Colour text: Feature was/would be abused. IE: every word in a post written in a different colour. (damn this US dictionary. Colour is not a typo!)

Marinealver killed color posts. Yes, I blame him.

Edit: Cyan sucks!

I want pink text. I'd kill for pink text.

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Cause of idiots. Also it would make the forums look messy.

If we could be trusted not to abuse any of those features, they'd let us have them. Then again I wouldn't trust people here to guard a salty bale of hay.

Because I said so.

And yes, on bungie.net, that is a good enough reason.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

Right to the point. Also it keeps the forums clean and organized. Just imagine what some of the people on Bungie will upload as their avatars...*twitches at thought* Also the post colors on Bungie are used to signify higher ranked users on Bungie. So if you want these features, follow the rules, keep it clean, and work hard (not saying you would become a mod. Look at me! Am I a mod?)

So I think the restrictions placed on us are for our own good.

ahem.. with all due respect:

I know you do give insightful responses at times, and do know what you're doing, but sometimes its really a pain in the ass. The only reason that this forum would turn to garbage if we allowed some of those features is because you say it will. Honestly, its like a dog and chain. If you chain a dog up forever, its going to break free and run into traffic and get itself killed (or starve). If you teach it early, let it learn the ropes, and hope for the best chances are it'll do just fine.

For those of you who don't catch on to metaphors: the dog is our forum :O

(10:19:49 PM) Scruss: oh and pezza, i saw what you did to that cat
(10:20:17 PM) Pezza: You were the one with the video camera breathing heavily. Of course you saw.

This forum probably has the biggest user base of any other single developer. I would fear the day that custom avatars are put into use.

Bungie.net is a very, very, very, very, very,(X20) large community. I think it is only right with the rights that us members have.

Yes, disregard the dedicated spammers who wouldn't hesitate to post many pictures of girls in tubs as opposed to tricking people with links.

I never really hinted at one particular feature we need added. Personally, I don't care whether or not if we could post images. I was.. "speaking in generalities"

you know what I mean :p

So, what you're saying is that you'd like to look at pictures of various people's ass on a regular basis? And as someone who'd have to police all of that, I frankly have better things to do.

I generally think most forums allow way too much clutter. For example, smilies. They're irritating. Images. Hell, even signatures are irritating - why should I be forced to read what essentially is an ad for yourself every time you post?

Forums are for conversation, not for posting pictures (at least on bungie.net). Deal with it. I hate to be blunt (well, not really), but I'm not going to lose any sleep that you can't post witty images.

I don't like those type of pictures either. I seriously think Bungie.net is perfectly fine with how it is.

Well it seemed you were referring to the original post and I figured you knew what happened to the colors so I went ahead with the pictures and completely disregarded any imaginative add-ons. Yeah...

There we go.. conversation

I'd like to be able to talk about a wider variety of subjects in the Flood, and get more interaction with the community going. But the second one there would be hard and I don't blame you if something never happens because there are just too many people here.

On smaller forums, you'll see this allowed. Reason being it is easier to control, less members, and most of the members will be banned if there is any dis-orderly conduct. However, 10 or so moderators cannot keep track of 2 million+ users, their history, and every single avatar out there. Color used to be here, it just got abused. Kinda like caps lock?

Ah, that is one rule that we should make. Ban posts in caps lock. And maybe even the code of conduct, so then there would be no excuse. And then the stickies of course. Although, it doesn't help that the entire terms of use is posted in caps.....
*Sorry about veering off topic there.*

Now, I agree with what many have said. This site has too many users to keep track of. That would mean moderators would have to check every thread, every post, in ever forum. For the so few moderators that we have, being able to post pictures(embedded) would be horrible, not just for the moderators, well over 75% of the bungie.net community is are just children. Parents would have to monitor their children much more; after all, the forums are filled with a bunch of sickos.

I can see the pros and cons of both sides. I would love to be able to have my own custom avatar and be able to post pictures. The problem is, 80%+ of bungie.net cannot handle that type of responsibility. So, for the benifit of the community, I support not having such freedoms.

Well, even with all the limitations, look what is still going around... We have spamming, posting leaked image and videos, bypassing word-filters. Maybe if the community was more mature Achronos would trust us enough, but for now, we are his personal Ginnee Pigs.

That's an entirely different matter. And I have a simple answer for you. In the public forums, you are restricted. In groups, you are not (unless you cause trouble).

Many groups exist for the sole purpose of allowing discussion about things that for one reason or another are not permitted in the public forums. There are groups for politics, for religion, for complaining about mods, complaining about specific users, worshipping specific users, etc.

So, you'll excuse me if I again don't really see what the big problem is. Essentially, we don't restrict what you can talk about. We just restrict where you can talk about it.
