Well, even with all the limitations, look what is still going around... We have spamming, posting leaked image and videos, bypassing word-filters. Maybe if the community was more mature Achronos would trust us enough, but for now, we are his personal Ginnee Pigs.

Guinea Pigs.
And yes, we are.

Cake>Pie!
Hey you saw my sig! :)
Their was a time when this was under a post. Simpler times; no Halo 3 Forum and no search. Simpler times. Happy about search though.

As long as you, Achronos, dose not change anything else I will not cry.

Why not add a feature where we can choose what the background color is, raither than the text. It'd be kind of like Windows Live Messenger, where you can choose your own color. So, instead of the forums being blue, if I wanted, I could change it to tan.

That's called a theme. And B.net wouldn't be B.net if it wasn't blue.

Because I said so.

And yes, on bungie.net, that is a good enough reason.

Posted by: kodemyster
I was just wondering why we are limited so much on Bungie.net. I mean these forums are one of a kind, but why limit us so much? This is one of the only forums anywhere that you cant upload your own avatar, you have to be real tricky just to embed an image, and we cant use color inside posts and threads... just to name a few.

Just wondering...
Right to the point. Also it keeps the forums clean and organized. Just imagine what some of the people on Bungie will upload as their avatars...*twitches at thought* Also the post colors on Bungie are used to signify higher ranked users on Bungie. So if you want these features, follow the rules, keep it clean, and work hard (not saying you would become a mod. Look at me! Am I a mod?)

So I think the restrictions placed on us are for our own good.

It would be the same thing as if someone bypassed the blam filter or spammed, they would get warned or banned... lets not make up stupid reasons please.

But people are forced to see it until the member is banned. And then the member can just make another account and repeat the process. It only seems like a stupid reason now because you do not have to suffer through it.

You have to give up some rights to be a part of a community and receive its benefits. If you want to have all of your rights, you'll just have to go live on your own. State of nature vs. political society and all that good stuff.

Forum Tutorials --- WATCH THEM AND LEARN

What use could having images possibly serve that a link could do just as well? Having them all on the same page so the poor 56k users like Kritz have to wait a hundred million thousand years to load a butt load of butts? I prefer links much more than images, as I can see the file extentions/address and guess if it's bad or not rather than being forced to look at it against my will.

Just because kritz has 1fps internet dosn't mean we should all suffer.

Ok just kidding. I think the limitations we have here are just fine, and i have had no problem with them the entire time i have been here. What you should do, is create your own forum if you are unhappy with these and go there.

This wasnt a 'shoot down Bnet' thread ok... I was just wondering why some rules are some rules.

One that I really dont get, is why we cant upload our own avatars?

Honestly, its like a dog and chain. If you chain a dog up forever, its going to break free and run into traffic and get itself killed (or starve). If you teach it early, let it learn the ropes, and hope for the best chances are it'll do just fine.

It's a really stupid dog, and you aren't the person who has to discipline the dog when it does something stupid.

And it always does something stupid. To extend the metaphor, it's like giving the dog a really cool toy and telling it to only play with it for 5 minutes every hour. The dog is too stupid to follow that rule, so he'll just play with it whenever he wants.

Images in signatures have to be the worst thing for any forum. They're horrible.
I like the way Bungie.net is.
It's uniform, neat, and under control. :)

I have 38, including Recycle Bin.

Allowing embedded images is a bit like handing out free chainsaws. With a lot of people who would abuse the feature, someone would get hurt, bad.

This forum probably has the biggest user base of any other single developer. I would fear the day that custom avatars are put into use.

I'd lessthanthree Achronos to restrict signatures to one line. It'd make my day.

Signatures should just be that. Signatures. Although with your profile name already to the left, I don't think that's even necessary.

Say you click on a thread that has just been created. You have never seen the member before, but the title seemed interesting. Now what it is his avatar? A picture of his nether regions. Of course, you will quickly turn the page back, but then other people must look at it as well, and the mods will have to look at it. Plus the member could post in other threads, which means that in every thread you visit you have to see that picture. They get banned, they make a new account, and they do it again, and again, and again, and again...

Now imagine if twenty people did that all day. Does it make sense now?

Relizing that I have come into this discussion very late, and that most that needs said has already been done, I have but one thing to suggest: Why not go look at some of the more populated forums that offer such freedoms, try just to cruise around and have a nice time like you do here on B.net, see how long it takes for your calm to be interupted by.....well you know. B.net is fine with it's limitations, as they are few and far between, we have everything we truly need on these forums, and then some. How does it go again? Dont look a gift horse in the mouth, I think?

When man gets more than he needs, he wants more than he gets.

I like that one better. It sounds more cynical, plus it has the repeating of "gets."

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

There was another forum very similar to Bungie.net that had all those things free to be used by the public. Around the same time Bungie went through a member spurt and the demographic here changed, the same thing happened there. Let's just say the majority of the people that used to frequent that site, including myself, don't go there anymore. In a perfect world, pictures and colored text should, in theory, be fine. But then again, communism should, in theory, also work, so everything doesn't always work out as well as planned.

After someone creates a new account for spamming purposes, they are normaly IP banned soon... like I said, please don't make stupid reasons.

But whatever its cool. I was JUST wondering. Thanks.

I got an idea to have custom avatars. How about in oder to have a custom avatar it must be submitted to bungie and screened to see if it doesnt violate any rules.

One problem where are we gonna find all the people to screen each custom avatar and what if someone keeps on submitting an avatar over and over and over...
Another problem is if a member submits an avatar that he/she already knows will get rejected.

This is just my idea.

On a smaller site, yes, screening would work. To do it here, however, would require 2401 moderators dedicated solely to avatar inspection, 24/7.
