Since people are always complaining about the search feature why not make it so that every time some one makes a new topic the new topic acts as a search bar and looks to see if there is another topic like it! and if there is it will direct you to that already made topic!

Thoughts?

This is actually one of the few ideas I like, and agree with. This would be really good. Although it should also check for the thread, and if it were locked, it should not allow the thread. As well as a page limit, say ten pages back. If it is within ten pages, it would not allow it to be posted. If the thread related is beyond ten pages, it would allow the post. Just my thoughts. But either way I do agree with you on this. Wonderful idea in my opinion.

Cortana 5 is a carbon-based lifeform that frequently visits these forums, currently residing in the United States. Practically every male on the site responds to her posts.

The Joyeuse IP Formula

Hmm. Well as long as it only looks for keywords and doesn't disable you from making the new topic if it's not the same. Yet again, the search feature complaints are probably from a small group of people making more noise than needed.

Aye! Good point!
I never thought of the locked threads. Good add on!

That's true... Maybe it could act as a warning? Then if some one catches them they can be banned for a while?

Forum ninjas are the forum moderators. They're the meanest, dumbest, and overall most useless users with special titles.

Master Forum ninjas are just that, Forum ninjas who have been given extra leeway to moderate the forums. They are the smartest and most capable moderators, but they're still jerks, so I'd stay away from them if I were you.

Shut up nerds!

I was thinking of posting an idea like this but never got around to it. But anyway I think this would be a good idea.

Altho there still might be some flaws in this too. Just to give you guys a fair heads up.
Like new people might not understand the change and might attempt to by pass it and then they would be risk being banned. *shrugs*

Instead of not allowing the post, maybe make it just give a message:
"Topics with similar keywords in the title have been posted, and are still active.
Please post there instead, unless your topic is completely different."
And then have it list the topics.
Of course, we need to decide what 'Active' means, otherwise, it would have to be different for every forum.
(The Flood = 5 minutes without a post, Septagon, 5 days XD.)

True. Just imagine how many clanmatch threads could be prevented. The forums could use a little more family planning. :P

It is moderately amusing, yes.
Back on topic, this idea should definately not be implemented until it has been thought through more, even though it is one of the few suggestions I've seen recently that I think would make a great addition to the site.

Why this wouldn't work:-

No matter what you posted, it will have already been posted before, somewhere. There is no way you can make a thread with a 100% original content as some of the words and phrases will of course be in other threads.

Therefore the problem being that no-one could ever make a new thread again.

Well someoe said that it could only do a search for the topic only like say... 5 pages back. it doesnt have to go all the way.

I can't remember where, but on one forum, when you entered a topic name, it came up with a list of similar topic names... Exactly like what you are describing, I think...

It's a great idea. :)

anyone who's played more than you has no life

anyone who's played less than you is a noob

this is a great idea. with some fine tuning it could cut spam in half. of course, there's always those people who will ignore it completely...

True but at least it gives the mods a break.

Personally I don't like the concept of using the search engine to see if someone's made a post *LIKE* yours before. Of course your post won't be original. I only don't like it when the information is widely available or if the same post is already on the first page of the forum. I believe a lot of people simply tell people to use the search feature because it's there.

I'm not sure that would make a whole lot of difference.

okay, they're forums. who CARES if there are too many topics? if you know what you're looking for just type it in search and you'll never have to go to the ones you don't want to. The problem is that nobody reads all of the posts when they drop into a topic therefore, if you have something you want to say it can easily be lost in a HUGE topic. So sometimes, when your idea is a little different, it's nice to start a new thread (especially when the old one is flamer filled)

P.S. I don't believe there's ever a thing as too many posts, it just makes more resources.
