I was messing around with teh leet forumz and found out how to link directly to a post in a thread. This won't show just the post, but it will bring it to the top of the page.

Step 1:
Find your post (for an example we'll use the Septagon Stickies Sticky), and right-click on the Msg User button, then click (for Firefox users) Copy Link Location, or (for IE users) Copy Shortcut.
Step 2:
Paste into a blank document or post or whatever.
Using my example, you should have this:
http://www.bungie.net/Account/Profile.aspx?postID=9810888& ;act=msg
Step 3:
Edit the Account to say Forums, and Profile to say Posts. Remove the & and everything after it.
Now you should have this:
http://www.bungie.net/Forums/Posts.aspx?postID=9810888
Step 4:
Copy the link into your browser and enjoy!

PS: My example is a bit pointless, it's the first post. But we're learning here, so, whatever.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

You can also use the search feature. ....

I find that finding a certain post in some very lengthy threads can be a headache sometimes, though. But when you can find it easily, that is a nice method.

I didn't know about using the msg user button though. I only knew about using the reply button. Which doesn't help if the thread is locked. So thanks to dalmedya for that. If only I can remember it, it should be helpful.

I just right click "Reply" go to "Properties" copy/paste the post ID number into the existing ID in your address bar and BAM! Insta-Link ;-)

Didn't know there were different ways to do this though, good call.

That method actually works for the message button, too. Which is helpful because old threads are automatically locked, so they have no reply button, but they still have the message button. As for linking to your own old posts... I think the search method is the only way to go.

Agreed. Many a time I've seen old posts being directly linked, and we can definitely thank the good 'ol search feature for that.

If I want to get the "link" for things, but still want to get elsewhere, I just hold down shift, click the link, then a new window pops up, then in that new window, I click in the text entering field of the address bar in result highlights the text in address, then ctrl+c, then close the window, then ctrl+v whereever needed.

You can also use the search feature.

Set the search to "Forums-All", find a unique phrase in the post that you want to link to (in the case of yours, I chose "How to Direct-Link to individual" as a phrase), put that phrase in the search field and make sure that you have it within quotation marks, and execute the search.

http://www.bungie.net/Search/default.aspx?q=%22How+to+Direct-L ink+to+individual%22&g=4

Is what I got. It only had one hit as you only have your original post. As replies are posted, it will show more hits. In that case, I would change the search phrase to be "with teh leet forumz " and search.

http://www.bungie.net/Search/default.aspx?q=%22with+teh+leet+ forumz+%22&g=4

Each of those results have a link directly to your post. I only need to right-click on the link to your post and select "copy shortcut". That will give a url just like your method, but no need to all that messy editing.

My way is faster and more reliable.

And my all time fastest way, using macros, they're just super. And of course hotstrings! Like it or lump it, macros are the fastest way.

Thanks for the heads up!

Yet another weapon to add to my arsenal of linkage.

Be honest now, how many days have you been sitting there and just waiting to use that picture in one of your posts? =-P

We all exist in hopes that someday we may post from imp's kittai bucket.

And this is something I've wondered about, but never figured out how to do... er, the link to post thing, not the kitty bucket posting.

Yeah, sure. By the way, I bookmarked my favourite images tehz Kittai Buket, because of all the animated previews sucking up my bandwidth.
Couldn't help it. Me <3 cats.
