that which is not dead can eternal lie, but with strange aeons even death may die.

I would like to take the time to put up some new features I think bungie.net could benefit from.

hopefully they would not negatively effect the populas from there normal doings.

1. A "members online" counter on each page.

It could be located to the right of the "new topic" button, or under the "more" link in the excess forums selections.

It would show how many B.net members are online at any given time, including Moderators, and or you friends and such. (more on friends later)

2. The Friends list.

This list could work just like the Xbox 360 friends list, and would or could look similiar.

you could add B.net members to your friends list by clicking there name, and there could be an option for "add as friend" then you could see if they are online, and message them and such.

3. (warning this one is a bit extreme)

"Post Rating".

this could be a bar, and you slide a counter or something across, from 1 to 10, and it could also be colour coded so...black could be 1, and red could be 10.

-but you could only do this once, and the bar that everyone saw, would be a average of what everyone put.

example of use.

Now you guys all know of Gunshark 360's Fanfic that he wrote, (which was magnificient by the way). most people would probably give his post a good rating, like a 9 or 10. so a bar next to the post would reflect that.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and feel free to comment and flame.

(try not to do the latter.)

-Blitz.

The first one sounds nice, but not really needed and the improvement would only be slight.

The second one just sounds redundant. You can already easily message people and with the first one implemented you could already see if they're online.

I really, really like that third option. It would really, really make browsing more efficient, and would really make me want to visit the site a lot more. It's just hard to judge a thread by title or number of posts because sometimes it's just a conversation between two people, or people liked it and didn't bother to post and perhaps I would post. It would help people avoid threads with silly questions in the title and "wat do u think" as the body. This about the only feature I have ever been totally and completely behind. Nice suggestion!

Thank you for your imput, and I like the fact that you actually thought out a response, not just "o, that sounds lame".

its much appreciated.

and yes, I agree, my 3rd Idea would really help the long post too, that maybe are to long for some people to read when they first see them, but if they had a hight rating they would think twice, and indulge in the lengthy post, and maybe learn a thing or two that they didnt know.

but of course, it would be abused by flammers and trolls...but hey. Thats why we have Moderators.

don't take me too seriously..

I want a "report thread" button that can be used report the thread if it contains something that is against the forum rules.

Once this button is pressed, it will send a small (but painful) electric shock into a small device that has been implanted in every single Bungie.net moderator's body. The point of the shock is to always keep moderators on task.

I think this will effectively reduce the amount of members breaking the rules, spam, bad or off-topic threads, and will make the Bungie.net a better experience for every user.

1. a couple more text colors
2. more group skins
3. member lists in groups by letters and not numbers
4. private group forum search feature

However, I am pleased with B.net just the way it is

Maybe to members, no to moderators. What I don't like about this idea is that it doesn't seem to have much of a use. If you want to send a PM to someone, you should send it regardless of whether or not they are online at the time, because they will get it regardless. So I don't see how it would actually help except to let people know that if they sent a PM at this exact moment, the member would receive it if that member were online.

2. The Friends list.

Again, I'm not quite sure how this might help. Friends should be people who you talk with on a fairly common basis, not just some guy who agreed with you in a thread. Besides that, the only difference between having a member be a friend and not be a friend is that the member who is a friend is marked as such.

3. (warning this one is a bit extreme)

I still don't see how this actually helps the community except by letting me know that some people liked a thread and some people didn't, or other people loved/hated it. I'd rather judge a thread by my reading of it, not others'.

There is a high amount of traffic on bungie.net, so I think it would be better if the "users online" thing instead just showed those users that have posted in the last, say, 10 minutes. I disagree with the friends list - that is what MSN is for.

As for your last idea, I have to disagree. As Mabian said, I want to decide for myself if a thread is good or not. Besides, the tweens here would give low ratings to the threads of those who they dislike.

Thread rating has been shot down by many, many people, many many times. I am one of them.
I think the only feature B.net really needs is a Halo General forum. And maybe a 'Flag user as idiot' button. :|

There does not need to be anykind of a rating system on here because for many people it would be 1's and flawed

I agree. Considering the average life of a thread on Bungie.net, it doesn't make any sense to have a rating system for each one.

This web page takes care of the Moderator part: kd5shw's Awesome Moderator Stalker Page

As far as seeing how many other users from B.net are online. What is the purpose or goal of doing that? How does it change the community? I don't see where it could apply to me. It certainly won't change how I think, post, or create content. It would just be another statistic on the website taking up space for a potentially better feature.

2. The Friends list.

This list could work just like the Xbox 360 friends list, and would or could look similiar.

Hmm. I like this idea. If this were to occur maybe it would work as the Bookmark feature does. Each and every user would have a small little box next to or around their name. Someone could click on their name to add them or block them from their friends list.

However you're best chances for now is to use AIM, MSN, XFire, etc.

It doesn't sound like a bad idea. However I figure it would end up like most polls. People cast a vote, do some naughty things to their browser, and then re-vote. However I do have an idea based on yours.

What if there was an ability for members to flag a thread. There could be a button just like "submit" that said "Flag." What this would do would give them several options as to why they are flagging the thread: Spam, Lewdness, Off-Topic, etc.

Now, next to the topic there could be a bar. It could be seen by Moderators only if desired. It would allow them to see the situation in the thread. Example:

Green - Good Thread/No Problems
Yellow - Possible Problems
Orange - A few problems
Red - This thread needs heavy moderation

To move up in level here is a suggestion:

Green: 0
Yellow: 1 - 3
Orange: 4 - 6
Red: 7+

Of course my idea would be just as vulnerable to Blitz's about the post rating. Honestly it is just the same really. It would depend on some user reliability and maturity. I don't think the community would be ready for something like that.

Thead ratings would be bad... There's already enough flame, let alone "well my thread had a such and such rating, what would you know?" needles to say that would be back and forth and bleeding into other threads. Think about how many arguments start on Halo 2 oriented with levels.
