i have a dual boot machine that runs xp and the vista retail on 2 seperate partitions.
halo ce plays fine on xp but when i play ce on vista (even with the compatibility patch) i'm getting tons of server disconnections/freeze ups in the lobby.
i've tried everything:
killing process for more system memory
putting more fans in the box for a cooler system
bundling up my wires with zipties
checking for updates and service packs
but nothing seems to work, (and it cant be the internet becaus it connects in both vista and xp)

can someone help me?

What it is.

it cant be vista because i have vista and halo pc and it runs fine for me...make sure you have the latest drivers...http://ati.amd.com/ for ATI drivers... and http://www.nvidia.com/ for Nvidia's drivers...

Vista is a piece of crap right now, when it comes to program compatibility. Wait for updates.

Get Marathon Here
Get Marathon 2 and Infinity Here

*ahem* The problem is Drivers. The operating system can only go so far to work with older programs when the Drivers arn't compatible with the operating system.

Check your network drivers, both on your PC and your modem/router as well as your graphics drivers.

And it may well be that your network adaptor is too old or of some obscure model that Vista doesn't recognize properly.

That's right, click edit, and take away the URL tags... quickly. So then you have ample time to fix it :P

Specs is a short term for a word that means what your computer's components are.
go to start, and select "run" at the right.
from there type in " dxdiag" into the box and click run.
now, look around on the front page for your processing speed and such. Copy and Paste that information onto this page.

demonmaster3k, are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Vista? I have the 64-bit (Ultimate), and I have problems with it too. I can run it, but it won't let me run it in anything but 640x480. It probably works with 32-bit Vista.
