I think having 7 (omg) or more different titles to choose from (Forum Clown, Flamebait, Theory Nut) to replace Member would be very nice. Implemented in the same way as the avatars, you can choose whichever one you want, whenever you want.

M6D Pistol - $190
BR55 Battle Rifle - $320
Halcyon-Class Cruiser - $198,783,189,420.92
Taking out an entire Covenant Armada all by your lonesome - Priceless
There are some things marines can't do.
For everything else, there's Master Chief.

Or instead of member, somehow integrate out Xbox live call signs into B.net as an added bonus to those of us who use Live

What kind of timeframe does Bungie have in mind when they say "Nigh!" It's just getting rediculous.

Soon
Not so Soon
Later

Pick one.

There will probably never be a ladder system. I don't care if there ever is one.

Ranks command respect. So some sort of system would have it's uses...
But elitism makes such ideas turn bad...

When I said "no user input" - I meant it. Systems such as this that require user input almost always fail.

Yeah. Pretty much.

It all depends on the community. This one, surely, will fail with something like that.

And it's your connection that's slower than turtle sex.

In........................................................Out .

How about two ranks? Member and active member?

If there were ranks, Bungie would need 7 ranks.

Systems such as that fail when they are subject to user input. If any such system were to be created, it would be focused around determining how "trustworthy" a user is, and would not have any user input other than the history of moderation against an account. Another important thing is that rewards for being a "good community member" have to such that you can't tell how close you are to getting them. Basically, everything about such a system should be hidden so it can't be "gamed". Only then can elitism be avoided - if you don't know how you got an "Veteran Member" title, for example, you can't really lord it over everyone. And if you do, then you aren't deserving of the title, and the moderators can discipline you for it, thus knocking you down a few pegs.

Theoretically, of couse. ;)
Is that a yes,no, or maybe?

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.” – Psalms 46:1-3

whats is this "ladder system" you speak of is it electronic or is it made of wood O_o. ( Joke )

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

I think this is what Achronos meant when he talked about people lording over others because of their position. ;-)

I like how we are all equals. I already know who has been here longer and who I respect the most without the need of a ladder sytem or a join date.

I'm prety sure they used to have something like this but it was just a join date... Which pretty much displayed how much of a Real Veteran you are.

I do remember that, with the join dates being displayed in the public forum, people were being ignored for more experienced users.

And now all members are equally ignored while the Mods and the Overlord get all the attention. What does this remind me of?

One cool little thing about Xbox.com is that its forums have a ladder that shows members who are veteran, or just plain nice.

Bungie.net is not a place to feed your ego...

Would make people post more, eh? Well, they'd only post more to get to a certain "rank" or to get a certain number of posts.

That's why Xbox.com is slightly flawed, but still pretty good.

And that's why the Nintendo forum is HORRIBLE. For god's snake, they have this "ranking" BS. Like, being on for 800 hours total, and doing like 30,000 posts. And other various BS, just go to get a certain rank, or get new features such as an IDE editor.

It's really dumb.

There shouldn't be any "reward" system in any forum. Otherwise, people post things like "lol" or "ok" just to get a post, as opposed to posting because they actually have something to say.
