Lights, Camera, Action Figures!

Joyride Studios , Bungie's partner in the Halo and Halo 2 action figure project, has revealed some of its forthcoming lineup from series three through seven of the new-improved Halo 2 figures.

Joyride has worked closely with Bungie Studios (in particular Lorraine McLees, with help from Shi Kai Wang, Robt. McLees and Eric Arroyo) to make sure the new characters are more detailed, more accurate and more interesting than ever before. You'd be surprised how seriously the Bungie guys take this stuff, or how pathetically excited they get when the concept models or finished products show up in the studio. We managed to get a sneak peek at some of the new figures, and they're pretty cool.

SpecOps Grunt

Grunts are generally deployed in standard infantry roles and have in the past been referred to as cannon-fodder. However, the Grunts can be trained for specialized roles and provide excellent support in Spec-Ops teams. Generally tougher, smarter and certainly more aggressive than their infantry counterparts, Spec-Ops Grunts are always deployed with Elite team leaders and specialized equipment. These resilient, loyal and dangerous operatives are not to be underestimated under any circumstances.

Lorraine is particularly pleased with the detail, saying, "These new figures are just so much more refined than the late series Halo [one] figures. I love the way the Arbiter looks, even the smaller version."

The new set fulfills the two holy grails of action figure design – detail and interactivity. The new articulation, especially on the Spartans, means they're as fun to play with as they are to look at.

Naturally the new figures are based on the new and returning characters from Halo 2, and as such they include the new features and aspects of those characters. In the case of the Spartans, that means the new Mark VI Mjolnir armor, but with some nice little extras, including secondary colors on the armor.

Some consider the Brutes even stronger than the Elites. Their military leader Tartarus, towers above his comrades in rank, charisma and terrible ambition. His distinctive silver mane serves as a warning to those who would cross his path. Tartarus alone is fit to wield the mighty Fist of Rukt, a battle hammer steeped in legend and blood. Tartarus may be a political force, but like all other Brutes, he has proved his worth and his position on the field of combat and like all Brute commanders, he leads his warriors from the front line.

The new Spartan figures in particular, have significantly more points of articulation – up to 23 from 18. This means that they're more posable and more lifelike than ever before.

The new characters and models you can look forward to over the coming months (they'll release them by series, and when they're ready) include those listed below, and there may be one or two additions to this list, including some special editions for specific retailers. The final names for these characters and vehicles may also change.

  • Blue Spartan
  • Tartarus
  • Ghost with Brute
  • Spec Ops Grunt (Active Camouflage)
  • Ranger Elite
  • Banshee
  • Red Spartan
  • Arbiter
  • Elite
  • Spectre
  • Prophet
  • Human Flood
  • Hunter (2) Pack
  • Jackal
  • Heretic Elite
  • Heretic Grunt
  • ODST
  • Steel Spartan
  • Tan Spartan
  • Pink Spartan

The Ghost is the standard Covenant troop vehicle - a single occupant rapid transit ground vehicle capable of high speeds and excellent maneuverability over a variety of terrain, thanks to its boosted gravity propulsion drive. As an attack vehicle it excels ñ quick, quiet and armed with devastating twin plasma cannons in the 100-250 kW range. Normally piloted by Elites or Grunts, the Ghost is the most commonly encountered and frequently dangerous vehicle in the Covenant arsenal.

We'll have more news and details on the new ranges of figures as they become available. In the meantime, be sure to check out the Joyride website for details on Halo action figures and more, including the fat kid from American Chopper!

Walshy's 2nd - Halo 2 Montage

Goodbye to you.

"This is the amazing Walshy's second montage on youtube. No description needed, but I'll give one anyway. Walshy is an amazing Halo 2 player, and is on one of the best teams, Final Boss, with players like him, Ogre 1, Ogre 2, and Strongside. This montage is a very honest montage with great editing and gameplay. Many snipes, sticks, multikills, and no scopes etc. I hope you enjoy it and leave a comment for me to read!?"
