This week we took on the guys from Podtacular . Podtacular is a group that releases new podcasts on a fairly regular basis discussing the current Bungie events. They've got a pretty strong community built up around them including 8 clans divided into 3 categories.

The real challenge this week was finding Frankie's house, as I just moved into my place and have no interwebs yet. After seeing the sights and a bit of help from some very nice Seatt..le..ites?... people, I found my way. As I approached the front door, Mrs.Frank was returning from an errand and mistook me for a home invader, or so I thought. I was maced for several seconds and kneed in the groin, at which point she said, "Frankie's upstairs in the game room." Perhaps that's a standard greeting in the city.

The Podtacular guys rotated their roster around foo mo jive and JVB as they had a lot of guys who wanted to play.

The Bungie roster should look pretty familiar:

- Secretly KP.
Shishka - Wishes he were secretly KP.
Ninja 0n Fire - Now firmly believes he should be in charge of all gametypes, ever.
evil "get in the damn hill, Frankie" otto
Billy77Bones - Blames his resolution.
Thug Larz - On the take.

Game 1: Low Hill
Game Stats
Beaver Creek, normal weapons
Game Duration: 14:05
General Tone of Game: Frantic, suspicious

This was a great game choice and one of the most funnestest games ever. With the hill in the middle and starting grenades on, the amount of carnage goes without saying. On the field for the Podtacular crew were the two static players - foo mo jive and JVB - while GLewis , Dialpex and CapnKrunk started off the rotation. The usual tactics were applied by all: control the rockets, get some duals, grab the sniper, throw some frags and get a few seconds at a time. We also noticed a new tactic Podtacular guys were employing: stand on a rock just outside the hill with a battle rifle and headshot. Simple but effective; no frags could reach him without a careful bounce and we had to shift focus from the hill to stop him a few times.

The Podtacular guys maintained the lead for at least the first half of the game, mostly because I was focusing on killing and helping others get time. After evil otto yelled at me enough, though, I started getting time by snagging the overshield and running in circles in the hill. It progressed as one might expect with members of each team getting a few seconds at a time, though occasionally one team or the other would spawn behind a base and one team would get a ten second jump.

Bungie had taken the lead for the last few minutes of the game, but for some reason Larz had trouble getting his last ten seconds despite Shishka, Ninja 0n Fire and I dominating the hill from the periphery. Podtacular pulled out the win coming back within the last minute and stealing (being handed? More on that later) the win.

Final Score: 1:00 to :58. Podtacular wins.

Game 2: 1 Flag CTF
Game Stats

Lockout, normal weapons
Game Duration:
General Tone of Game:

This was your usual 1 Flag CTF on Lockout. It's one of my favorite objective gametypes despite the fact that it always ends in the same 2-2 tie. Podtacular rotated in Samanator , RusOmi7677 and Painkilla05 for this one and they were pretty quick in establishing an above average skill level. After finding my rhythm in the prior match, I was dominating everything in sight, killing them to dust . As if on cue, Larz calls Frankie. Through some miracle of telecommunications, this knocks us offline. This disturbance threw me off my game for the night. Conspiracy? Perhaps. Shady? Hells yes.

When I was able to rejoin, they politely restarted the whole match and the typical snail-like flag captures ensued. It was a fun match and fairly even the whole way through. Podtacular did a good job of controlling a lot of the key weapons and positions, but we were able to wear them down.

Final Score: 2-2.

Game 3: Team SWAT
Game Stats
Sanctuary, Battle Rifle and Magnum
Game Duration:
General Tone of Game:

The third game was Bungie's choice and we decided to go with a new spin on the standard gametype from our most recent playlist, Team SWAT. It was Team Slayer with points on, 250 points to win. Podtacular brought in KIMO23 , LoneBananaFone and DrThom who all turned out to be pretty deadly with the Battle Rifle.

Podtacular jumped out to something like a 40 point lead within the first minute of the game. Bungie worked its way back though behind Shishka's impressive performance. I was still way off my game and may or may not have stuck myself, reports could not be verified as of press time. Despite coming very close on several occasions, we never could quite wrest the lead from them. They were all very quick on the trigger and although they pulled away with some double kills at the end it was a pretty tight match.

Final Score: 250 - 225. Podtacular wins.

We had a great time playing against these guys, great game choices and cool dudes in general. If you want to see what they're all about, you should check out and download an episode or two. Thanks to them for playing and for giving Larz a few extra bucks of spending money this weekend.

Check back next week when we're taking on the guys from Halo Planet .

Walshy's 2nd - Halo 2 Montage

Posted by urk at 4/15/2010 9:19 AM PDT

Goodbye to you.

"This is the amazing Walshy's second montage on youtube. No description needed, but I'll give one anyway. Walshy is an amazing Halo 2 player, and is on one of the best teams, Final Boss, with players like him, Ogre 1, Ogre 2, and Strongside. This montage is a very honest montage with great editing and gameplay. Many snipes, sticks, multikills, and no scopes etc. I hope you enjoy it and leave a comment for me to read!?"
