Last night the Bungie crew faced off against the 8-bit Brigade. They're a genuinely nice group of gamers so we accepted the challenge and met them last night for the Humpday.

We normally play a warm-up game, which typically sets the tone for the entire match and can often predict the winner. We played this week's warm-up game on Lockout with three oddballs. We totally dominated them. evil otto was running around with the oddball breaking faces and the rest of us had no trouble putting them away. The real games went nothing like this. It seems that this was all an act to build up our self-esteem and bring down our guard. That's right, I'm declaring shenanigans.

8-bit Brigade brought six pillars of its community.

Slitt Vicious- Card-carrying communist.
CzarCastic- 60% of the time, he spawns with a sniper, every time.
Canis Firebrand- 8-bit's head honcho.
Duster72- Drinks generic, caffeine free diet soda, if you catch my drift.
ZX10DOUG- Eats babies.
GeneralFault- No relation to Commander Culpability.

Bungie brought six of the most important men... ever!

evil otto- Designs the most important UI... ever!
XxALURxX- Tests the most important game... ever!
Frankie- Boss of the most important employee... ever!
Ninja 0n Fire- Manages the most important playlists... ever!
iamnuts- Breaks the most important game... ever!
KP-  Writes the most important descriptions... ever!

Game 1:
Basejumping
Coagulation, BR start with random secondary
Game Duration: 15:00
General Tone of Game: Unexpected

If you've yet to play the clusterfest that is the Team Carnage playlist, Basejumping is basically Team Slayer with no shields, bonus points turned on and Battle Rifle start with the secondary weapon set to random. What can suck about this gametype is that someone always spawns with a sniper and it's never you. The 8-bit guys spawned together behind blue base and at least two of them seemed to have sniper rifles right off the bat.

They held the area behind blue base for almost the entire game. They gained a 50 point lead early and continued to build on it because we kept assaulting the region in pairs at the most. We only unseated them from that area after we were able to hit it with about four guys. By then, though, the damage was done.

The rest of the game was spent still focusing on that area of the map. We surged to within about 50 points on occasion, but ultimately they regained the area and proceeded to stomp on our souls until the clock ran out.

230 to 156. 8-bit Brigade wins .

Game 2:
1 Flag CTF
Headlong, normal weapons
Game Duration: 10:51
General Tone of Game: Abysmal

At the beginning of this game, Frankie left to let someone into his house and told us to start without him, as he'd be back shortly. Unfortunately, Frankie had network problems when he came back to his Xbox and couldn't get back online. This didn't work out so well for the next two games, both of which were objective games.

The CTF match on Headlong started pretty well, we had a nice assault on their base. It was a bad sign that I passed by all of the power weapon spawns and the weapons were gone without me ever having seen a member of the opposing team. Once we got into the base I took down one defender fairly easily and proceeded to the flag. I should've known there was something up when the guy standing on the flag simply backed away. I jumped down and a rocket took me out before I even touched the platform, he'd been hiding by the window next to the flag. With both of our assaults we worked the flag out of the base and close to ours, but the 8-bit Brijerks got both snipers, manned the turret and modded three tanks into the map to stop us.

Their assaults went the same as ours, but with significantly less suck. They got the flag out but were able to wear us down and slowly advance the flag back to their base and score. Again they controlled the snipers and covered their team as they worked us over in the middle of the map.

2 to 0. 8-bit Brigade wins.

Game 3:
Team King
Lockout, normal weapons
Game Duration:  6:05
General Tone of Game: Panic

I chose this game because it worked out pretty well a couple weeks ago. That, and I like Lockout and Team King. I didn't really think it through, though. They had more players than us and time was cumulative, so you get more time the more people you have in the hill. I should have picked low hill, in retrospect.

We started off pretty well, holding them off until we were tied at about 30 seconds. At this point, the 8-bit Brigade took over in one fell swoop. Everyone on our team died and they set up two or three guys in the hill while the rest stood at elevated positions with Battle Rifles and worked the Bungie crew every time it tried to get into the hill. It wasn't until we started to focus on taking out the support that we got back into the hill and got some time. It was too little too late, however, as the 8-Bit Brigade was able to claw their way into the hill enough times to get the last 20 seconds or so without having to attain the level of map control they needed previously to gain significant time.

2:00 to 1:30. 8-bit Brigade wins.

The 8-bit Brigade were a fun group to play with and we had a blast, despite their shenaniganry. If they sound like a group you want to be a part of, head over to their site and see what they're all about .

Walshy's 2nd - Halo 2 Montage

Posted by urk at 4/15/2010 9:19 AM PDT

Goodbye to you.

Killtacular.

"This is the amazing Walshy's second montage on youtube. No description needed, but I'll give one anyway. Walshy is an amazing Halo 2 player, and is on one of the best teams, Final Boss, with players like him, Ogre 1, Ogre 2, and Strongside. This montage is a very honest montage with great editing and gameplay. Many snipes, sticks, multikills, and no scopes etc. I hope you enjoy it and leave a comment for me to read!?"
