Assault bomb arms instantly, and one successful detonation ends the round. Team with the highest score after five rounds wins. Three minutes per round.

  • Territories BRs (20.1%) - Teams take turns attacking and defending territories. Battle Rifle starts. Most territories taken after two rounds wins. 4 minute round time limit.
  • Land Grab (20.1%) - Both teams must attempt to take as many territories they can. The team with the most territories captured after three rounds wins. Territories are locked upon capture and cannot be captured by the opposite team (locks reset at the end of each round). 30 uncontested seconds within a territory to capture. Three minute round time limit.
  • Land Grab BRs (11.5%) - Both teams must attempt to take as many territories they can. Battle Rifle starts. The team with the most territories captured after three rounds wins. November Matchmaking Updates

Embrace change.


We let you know about the inbound November changes in the update a few weeks back, but if you were waiting on word that they went live, here it is.  Word.  If this is the first you've heard about it, here's the breakdown of the changes:

Ranked:
Team Slayer – All extra content optional (Includes Heroic, Legendary, Mythic, Mythic 2 and Cold Storage)
Team Throwback – Weighting on Valhalla, Standoff reduced. Weighting on Heretic, Citadel increased. The Pit replaced with Pit Stop.
MLG – Maps updated to MLG version 7. Guardian and Lockdown (Foundry) removed. Heretic added to Slayer, Oddball and CTF. MLG is now Halo 3: Mythic required.

Social:
Big Team Mythic – Removed.

7 on the 7th:
7 Player FFA on Cold Storage, Assembly, Heretic and Citadel. (Halo 3: Mythic required)

Highest score after 3 rounds wins.  Top 25% of winners at the end of a round become zombies in the following round. 3 minute round time limit.
  • Creeping Death (7%) - Infection. Survivors start with Shotguns and Magnum secondaries. Infected start with Gravity Hammers, have 75% gravity, enhanced motion trackers, good active camo, and are colored black. Score points by killing Infected as Survivors or killing Survivors as Infected. Highest score after 3 rounds wins. Whoever has the highest score at the end of a round becomes the zombie at the beginning of the following round. 3 minute round time limit.
  • Creeping Rocket (9%, Skipped after Veto) - Infection. Survivors start with Rocket Launchers and Spartan Laser secondaries. Gametypes

  • ODST Slayer (86.7%) - Team Slayer, first team to 50 wins. Players start with SMGs and Magnums. Player traits: 150% Damage Resistance, Energy Shields disabled.
  • Asset Escort (13.3%, Skipped after veto) - Teams take turns escorting their VIP to as  many points as possible. Anti-VIP starts with Spike Rifles and Gravity Hammers, and have 150% gravity. VIP team starts with Battle Rifles and SMGs, and have 90% damage resistance, and wear black armor. The VIP starts with a plasma pistol no grenades, does 0% damage to opponents, has 90% damage resistance, 4x overshields, 50% shield recharge rate, 75% move speed, 75% gravity, full vehicle use, an enhanced motion tracker, a waypoint that can be seen by all, and is colored purple. VIP team members within 40 meters of the VIP get 2x overshields. The Sandtrap Escort variant is two rounds long, and only the VIP and the Anti VIP team can drive vehicles. The Rat's Nest variant is 4 rounds and everyone has full vehicle use.

If you've yet to earn your 7 on the 7th Vidmaster achievement, now's the time.  August's 7 on the 7th is live and stuffed full of your community maps.  There's no Recon being awarded this time out, but you'll need to snag this achievement if you want to earn it eventually (9/22/09 - Halo 3: ODST in all stores, everywhere).  And of course, if you just want to play to be entertained, you're more than welcome to do that too.

Gametypes

  • Grifball (55%) - Teams vie over a bomb, attempting to plant and detonate the bomb on the other team's arm point. Players spawn with Gravity Hammers and Energy Swords. Player traits: No grenades,  infinite ammo, 200% damage and no shields. Ball carrier traits: Orange forced color, 2x shields and 150% movement speed. Assault bomb arms instantly, and one successful detonation ends the round. Team with the highest score after five rounds wins. Three minutes per round.
  • Mayan Grifball (20%) - Players have 110% move speed. Ball carrier has 150% move speed.
  • Grifball Up There (15%) - Bomb reset time is 10 seconds.
  • Aerial Grifball (10%) - Players have 75% gravity and 100% move speed. Ball carrier has 50% gravity and 100% move speed. Bomb reset time is 10 seconds.

Maps

  • Grifball Court (Foundry) - Variant of Foundry made specifically for Grifball tournament play.
  • The Grif Cave (Sandbox) - Grifball in Sandbox's crypt. Optional.
  • Chichen Itza (Sandbox) - Grifball court styled in the fashion of an ancient arena. Optional.
  • Ultim8 Grifball (Sandbox) - Get it? With the 8 there, it's like saying  "ultimate." Whoever came up with that should do stand up because they're, like, hilarious and stuff! Optional.

Okay, so we're still a few days away from the 4th of July. That's cool.  Let's start the celebration early.  Go ahead and fire up your copy of Halo 3 and jump into this week's Double EXP Weekend Playlist.  If you're underage, make sure you have some adult supervision - we wouldn't want you to lose a finger because you pointed that Laser the wrong way.

Team Melee Double EXP Weekend!

Beat Down your work week blues.


As of this very instant, those looking to work out the stress and tension built up from this week's work can exorcise their demons in the Team Melee Double EXP Playlist.  It's been updated to include a team-oriented version of Punchout, previously branded "Black Friday" in the Turkey Day Playlist from last November.

Team Melee is available from 11am PDT April 16th (today) and runs until 2am Monday morning.  Heroic, Legendary, and Cold Storage are required.  Mythic is optional.

7 on the 7th: Avalanche!

As Spring warms up, thaw off in the frostiest map in Matchmaking.


Available now and until 1am PDT on the ninth, the 7 on the 7th playlist is back, featuring Avalanche! For those not aware of it, 7 on the 7th is an achievement added to the Halo lineup last year that can only be achieved on the 7th of every month. The 7 on the 7th playlist exists specifically to give players a shot at that elusive achievement.

For the past several months, now, we've featured 7v7 matches on Avalanche. Given the change of seasons, we feel that hosting 7 on the 7th on such an icy map seems almost inappropriate. As such, we will at least temporarily retire the Avalanche 7 on the 7th after this month. In May, 7 on the 7th will be something a little more mythic, if you catch my drift.

Rocket Race Double EXP Weekend!

VIP escort with a multi-team, mongoose-based twist


Starting now, Rocket Race is available in double EXP format. For those of you that missed out when Rocket Race was a full-time playlist, the gametype pits multiple teams of two in VIP-escort styled gameplay. Everyone spawns with rockets and is invincible, and the goal is to reach the far-spread escort points before the other teams. To aid you in this, you'll spawn near a trusty steed: The Mongoose.

Rocket Race is available from Thursday, March 26th at 11am PDT until Monday, March 30th at 2am. Heroic map pack is required. Have fun!
