B.net Maintenance (Complete)
Do we cut the red wire, or the green wire?
The guys who make our computers work tell me that they'll be yanking on some wires tonight. As a result, Bungie.net will be offline between the hours of 12:00AM and 2:00AM PT. You've been warned (but please feel free to squawk about the outage on Twitter).
Last Chance to Buy Bungie Pro (Updated!)
As part of Halo’s transition to Microsoft management, Bungie Pro will soon be going dark. On September 15th, we’ll stop offering the current 6-month subscriptions, and full support will be phased out around March 22nd, 2012.
What happens after September?
Bungie Pro Video will only be offered in pay-as-you-go form, via the Render Minute Packs available through Bungie.net, and you’ll no longer need to be a Pro member to buy them.
More information about the last time to use up your minutes will be available after that March date, but you’ll have until then for sure.
We will NOT be removing Pro features, including expanded File Shares or Bungie Pro Nameplates for any Pro accounts that expire after 9/15, and Microsoft has let us know that once that last Pro subscriptions have expired they intend to allow you to retain your 24 File Share slots.
A Word on Using Protection
Keep it secret. Keep it safe.
Xbox LIVE Security has notified us of an internet creeper who's registered a fake website to try and trick you into divulging your personal information. Bungie will never ask you for your account credentials and you should never divulge your personal information, especially to online asshats.
Bungie.net Gets a Facelift
New look. Same great taste!
You're great at noticing things. No doubt you've already laid eyes on the new look for Bungie.net. Go ahead, browse around. You'll likely uncover some newly bedazzled content. But don't get too freaked out about all the changes. Though today does mark the transition of Halo playlist and matchmaking support, you can still access our friendly forums, hang out in your private groups, and check all your career Halo stats.
There's an app for that.

Bungie.net Goes Read-Only [Complete!]
Anything that requires, sign-in (including forums, private groups and messaging, etc.) will be offline for a few hours today while our online team performs some "scheduled maintenance." Remember that cheeseburger you stuffed under the couch cushion? Yeah, we have to clean that up.
As soon as our systems are back online and fully functioning, we'll let you know. Until then, please continue to stare blankly into your monitors.
edit: As "a few" people might have noticed in the past several hours, we're fully-functional again.
Bungie Beta Tester Survey Relaunched
Back and better than ever!
If you’re interested in spilling your guts about your gameplay habits, the possibility of learning about our next game first, or even being recruited for bona fide beta testing, you should participate by clicking “Beta Tester Signup” from the Games menu above, or by clicking on the fancy new status bar in your Bungie.net profile.
Scheduled Maintenance Tonight
We meant to do that!
The online team tells me that they'll be performing routine maintenance around midnight tonight (PDT). It's expected that Bungie.net functionality, including stats, will be marginally impacted. While we don't expect any in game mischief, if you run into some, it's likely that some unanticipated thing exploded unanticipatedly, and that we'll be furious scrambling to resolve it by the time the sun comes up.
If this is the last time we ever speak, we want you to know that we've always loved you, and that yes, it was us who left the seat up the night you fell in. We're sorry.
Rendered Video Traffic Jam
Give it a minute. It's going to space!
We're totally sorry that your rendered videos are moving at a snail's pace. We ran into some technical difficulties over the weekend, and while we've our online team got everything all fixed up, it is going to take a little while before things are moving at optimal levels again. The Hydra is chewing through a sizable backlog right now.
Apologies for the delay. Still friends?
We need your help.

1500 x 3500
Having trouble baking that cake?
This week's Bungie All Star Challenge has led to a little bit of confusion. What is
a megapixel anyway? Existential questions aside, here's a quick breakdown to help you get on track.
The dimensions can be either 1500x3500 or 3500x1500. It depends on whether your card is formatted horizontally, or vertically. See, you're ultimately going to fold it, so technically the front panel is really half the width of the layout (1750 or 750, respectively). If your design spans the entire width and doesn't account for the fold, it's going to make for an odd birthday card.
Example (Not to Scale):
<-------this is the back of the card----------3500---------this is the front of the card------------->
Fold down the center. If you want to design the interior, you'll need to create a separate image using the same parameters for the left and right interior panels. If you're still confused, hit up the local drugstore and emulate the layout of a real birthday card.
Bungie All Stars – Week 3
Wake me when you need me.
Hot on the heels of your magnificent Moa submissions this past Friday, we're ready to get you off and running for some Week 3 madness. And since the Animal Kingdom paid massive dividends last week, we're sticking to some similar subject matter. Your mission: a certified, Grade A Sacred Cow.
- Using any medium you can digitize and send via email, whip up some fan art of what you think Master Chief would look like without his helmet on.
- You have from this very second until Thursday, January 27th at 11:59pm PT to submit your entry for consideration (and public ridicule) to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Use the subject line “Bungie All Star Week 3” without the quotation marks to help me keep nice and organized.
- The size limit is 10MB and you should use your best judgment and discretion in terms of the nature of the content you choose to submit. After all, our mothers visit this site (yours too!).
- One submission per person. Please include your Bungie.net profile and gamertag in your email so we can grant you your reward of the star nameplate if and when you win.
You can go with a super serious straight take, or go straight for the funny bone. If you want to build John out of Forge blocks, that works too. Anything goes (except, you know, that
). And don't worry about what you think Bungie originally had in mind for John, now's the time for your creativity to shine. Oh, and this week we're rewarding more than just one nameplate, so don't be intimidated by the awe-inspiring artisans of the Bungie Community. We'll be looking to highlight submissions from multiple categories, provided there's enough submissions to accommodate our aspirations.

2010 Spike VGA Nominations
"Celebrating the best in this year's gaming."
Spike unveiled this year's VGA nominations and it looks like our little game that could, Halo: Reach, is up for seven. We think seven is a swell number of nominations. We also think Nathan Fillion should have been nominated for best Xbox 360 game. The man is a phenom.

Bulletproof Challenge Shot Full of Holes
But it's all better now.
Some of you noticed that today's Daily Challenge, Bulletproof, was so challenging that it was downright impossible. It's all better now. Instead of completing three insurmountable rounds in Firefight Matchmaking without dying, all you have to do is finish one with zero deaths. Good luck!
Bungie.net Primed for Launch
But not yet fully armed and operational.
Yup, a small switch was flipped this afternoon in anticipation of Halo: Reach's impending launch. Yes, some stuff is not working at full capacity. No, you don't need to keep emailing Stosh.
When the big switch gets flipped, we'll let you know.

Message to all friends,
The frontpage news feed is for, you guessed it, news. Having to wade through a few hundred "submissions" of the caliber on display above (and depressingly much, much
lower) to get to the good stuff makes me stupidly cranky. Don't make me turn this website around!
