We've posted part II of our "favorite Marathon 2 netmap" poll. Thunderdome dominated the first poll with a whopping 55% of the popular vote, so it's been added to this second poll. Giant Flaming Pit Of Lava came in a distant 2nd with 14%, No Disintegrations came in 3rd with 10%. Look under the navbar on the left and let us know your favorite!

Is That a Legendary Walkthrough?

Is That a Legendary Walkthrough?

Why yes, it is. No7orious, founder of Freaks of the Flood (/fanclub/113), has sent in an in-depth and informative walkthrough of the Pillar of Autumn, Halo's first level, for those of you trying to tackle it on Legendary difficulty. It's over on the right on the Halo site, /site/1.

Better yet, Mordia was kind enough to illustrate the article with screenshots. Thanks for the first fan content submission, No7orious, hopefully you'll start a trend! Seriously though, everyone be sure to let us know what you think of this new feature, and if you like it enough maybe he and Mordia will be nice enough to do walkthroughs for all the levels.

One Born Every Second

Several users have been intentionally manipulating the activity meter to bump their chapters up to the top of the Most Active list. Some things never change. That list wasn't meant to be competitive, it's there to encourage group activity and point people towards the most active groups. If you want publicity submit something worth publicizing to 7thcol@bungie.com for the week in review. The offenders have been dealt with as appropriate. Avoid making this same mistake, next time we won't be so nice.

Myth Vault Overhaul

Myth Vault Overhaul

Two big announcements today: we're officially shutting down the Myth II metaserver on the 15th, but we're also open sourcing the server code. To help people that want to develop and run their own servers we've overhauled the Myth Vault, finally shutting down the old web server but adding a site that we hope will become the heart of the Myth server development community. Even better, this site is home to Bungie's first ever forum! Nothing too fancy just yet, but be sure to read the top story above and check out the site.

Marathon 2 Map Poll

We've posted a new poll, this time asking which Marathon 2 netmap is your favorite. This is the first in a set of two polls, as our system only allows ten choices.

Mars Needs Women was the winner in the Marathon netmap poll, earning a hefty 27% of the vote. Waldo World Arena came in a close 2nd with 24%, trailed by You Don't Need To See My ID with 12%.

Kung Fu Movie Review

Kung Fu Movie Review

I know what you're thinking: What do Bungie Online team members do when they're not slaving away on this site? Well, for starters, we watch bad kung fu flicks. In this first (and maybe last) installment of the Kung Fu Movie Review Stefan and I battle two abominations, "Meals on Wheels" and "Fighting Duel of Death."

Wheels on Meals (1984)
· CAST : Jackie Chan, Samo Hung, Yuen Biao, Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, Lola Forner · DIRECTOR : Samo Hung · PRODUCER : Leonard Ho · WRITERS : Edward Tang King-sang, Johnny Lee, Samo Hung · STUNT COORDINATOR : Samo Hung · Nominated for "Best Action Design", Jackie Chan's Stuntman Association, Hong Kong Film Awards, 1984

STEFAN: With credits like that, you would think this movie will be packed with martial arts goodness and non-stop action. Unfortunately you would be sadly mistaken. The first half of the film bounces between a horrid story and Mitsubishi Motors product endorsements (hilights include prostitutes outside the Mitsubishi Motors plant, a Dukes-of-Hazard-esque double car jump by an old woman in her Mitsu sedan and Samo, Yuen and Jackie jumping across a freeway in the Wheels-on-Meals Mitsu Mystery Machine landing on a flatbed full of crates of oranges. At about the halfway mark Max started fast-forwarding through the majority of the film as no one could stand the awful dialog. At the end of the film, we finally get a decent fight scene with Jackie against Benny the Jet, Samo engaging in some sword play and Yuen Biao kicking random ass. Quote of the film: "Send the bitches to the dungeon!" I think that was directed towards the writers of this film. It was sad to see so much talent wasted in what could have been a great Kung Fu flick. Other than the end fight scene, there is not much to see here. Ugh.

MAX: I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of this film, Stefan. It sucks. I was willing to suffer through the first 10 minutes or so of plot development, and even thought things were showing promise when Yuen Biao jumped out of a second story window and landed square on his keister. Ouch! That, the attractive in that 80's sort of way Lola Forner, and the ending fight scene were definitely the high points. Everything slid downhill after the first few minutes though, and didn't stop. I was so dumbfounded that this movie was so bad that I actually watched the entire first half, no small accomplishment. Conclusion: This movie was all the worse because the actors had so much potential. Make sure your fast forward button is working if you insist on watching it, and either plan for a short evening or make sure you have another Kung Fu flick lined up for later, like we did. But make sure it isn't Fighting Duel of Death....

Fighting Duel of Death (????)
STEFAN: This film starts with a prison yard fight, and two of the men getting released from said prison a short time later. After some talk of sharing bodily fluids while in the slam, this film began spiralling ever downward into the crapper. Horrid production quality and no remarkable fight scenes to speak of here. Max fast-forwarded through most of this movie as well so that we had some time left over to play DOA3, so the night was not a complete loss.

MAX: This movie was about the worst backup we could have picked. Charlie, the main character, has sworn an oath of nonviolence. He finally breaks it to help an old friend, who's wife has amassed a hefty gambling debt, been kidnapped, rescued, and has returned to exact a gruesome revenge. Or something like that. Who cares?!! Where's the Kung Fu? Even worse, I swear this movie was recorded off of a television using a handheld video camera. At one point near the beginning I'm certain I saw the edge of the TV, and the entire rest of the film was shaky enough to make a sailor sick. Props go out again to that very special friend--the fast forward button.

Simplified Links to Chapters

Nijhazer requested this feature this morning and Achronos thought up a quick solution. You can now use shortcuts to link to your chapters. Just type in http://www.bungie.net/fanclub/x, where x is the desired chapter id (get this from the URL displayed when you view your chapter). So, for example, to link to Nijhazer's chapter from another site I'd type http://www.bungie.net/fanclub/5. You can also use this in a LINK tag on this site by typing /fanclub/5.

Mad Disbanding Spree Part I

I've been disbanding chapters inactive since last year. Once again I'm being lenient as heck, and I'm even leaving nice warning messages for those I suspect might still be around. If you're the one irresponsible for one of these chapters best let me know about it soon, or yours will be no more. Warnings have been left for chapters starting A through M, the rest will follow.

Sometime over the weekend the Webmaster snuck in a new edition of his Letters page. This has got to be some kind of record. The last time he was seen working this hard was the day after he got back from Tibet, when he was seen furiously scribbling a transcript of his journey on a Stuckey's napkin. Anyway, click the link over on the right for the latest edition.

Soffish Is The Champion!

Soffish, that wiley friend of ours that does not harm human body, made a surprise comeback in our last poll. The poll asked which theme you would most like to see next. Soffish just barely snuck past The Flood, which ended in a close second. Candyman was relieved, as we actually started on a Soffish theme a while back, whereas we haven't the slightest clue what a Flood theme will look like. We have a few projects that take priority over any more themes but when we get some time we'll see what we can conjure up.

For the past 2 days we've been experiencing some bizarre text cropping problems. We know that this affects some poll questions, messages, and news posts that are over 80 characters long.
