EXP and TrueSkill issues in Matchmaking

Since Xbox Live's scheduled maintenance ended this morning, gamers playing Halo 3 have noticed that TrueSkill and EXP are not being rewarded properly (which is to say, EXP is not being rewarded at all). We are currently working with the Xbox Live team to identify and resolve this issue, and we hope to have you earning your EXP again as quickly as possible.

Note that this is not the same as an EXP ban. If you have been banned from gaining EXP for boosting as part of our recently evolved Banhammer, you will receive a message informing you so quite clearly from the game itself. If you have not seen this message (which reappears often), then you are not banned.

There is nothing further to add at this time, but I will update this post as updates are warranted.

UPDATE: 3:46pm PDT
Further investigation suggests that this is a larger problem with the Xbox Live service that is affecting more games than just Halo 3. We will continue to work with the Xbox team to resolve the issues, but ultimately the ball is in their court, and that rings true for more than just Halo fans.

UPDATE: 6:42pm PDT
Sorry, folks. The Live team is working really hard to resolve issues, but there is no ETA for a complete resolution at this time. Further, when these issues are resolved, there is no guarantee that EXP gained in the interim will be retroactively rewarded. Thanks again for your patience.

UPDATE THE THIRD, OCTOBER THE SECOND IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 2008, 9:26am PDT
Hooray! It appears that all issues have been resolved. People playing since late last night should notice that they are now properly being rewarded for EXP.

Unfortunately, EXP earned over the last couple days will not be retroactively rewarded, nor can we adjust TrueSkill for the games played. On the bright side, you can make up lost time by playing this weekend's Double EXP playlist!

Thanks again to everyone for their patience while the matter was resolved.

UPDATE: 2:56pm
It would appear that not only have the issues with EXP not been solved, but new issues with matching have arisen. Rest assured that we are aware of what's going on and are doing everything we can to help Microsoft resolve this quickly. We're sorry for the downtime especially in light of the double EXP weekend and we'll update you the moment things are locked down.

UPDATE: 6:00pm
It would appear that things are mostly back in order. The Xbox Live team is continuing to work on the problem and hopefully people should see their EXP streaming in at a proper rate soon.

January Playlist Updates

As of right now, our matchmaking support team has deployed two major playlist additions, introducing Arena FFA and Community Slayer, the latter of which is completely comprised of some notable Forgetacular maps. They've also made other, more minor modifications, which we've lovingly listed below. Go nuts!

PLAYLISTS
Arena
  • Added FFA Arena playlist, test your might in this 6-8 player Arena
  • Added Unanchored map variant to all Arena playlists
  • Players can now change their votes in Arena playlists
Community Slayer
  • The first of several new community playlists
  • Unaltered maps made by you, the Halo community
  • Play and vote. Your voting data controls what rises into the ranks of official playlists!
Team Objective
  • Cleaned up entries in the Team Objective playlist, we now offer the best of the best
MLG
  • Maps updated to v2.1, this includes fixes to weapon spawn times
Team Slayer
  • Adjusted weightings in response to voting data, default “Team Slayer” should now be available more often
MAPS
Asylum
  • Added soft kill volumes to the rocks leading up to the ledge on the right side of the Red Base (AKA, Infection camping grounds)
  • Adjusted the placement of the large rock on the outside ledge of Red Sniper spawn
The Cage
  • Added soft kill volumes to some lower areas outside of the intended playable space
Anchor 9
  • Modified the size and shape of the center hill object to better fit the area in KOTH games
Breakpoint
  • Reduced the radius of the safe haven in the greenhouse
GAMETYPES
Big Team Slayer
  • Now 100 to win!
Elite Slayer
  • Modified loadouts, Armor Lock is now accompanied by a Plasma Rifle instead of a Needler
Rocket Race
  • Motion Tracker is now Enabled
  • Hud-widget for KPH is now in the bottom center
Powerups
  • In gametypes built from the latest matchmaking variants, powerups should now function as they do in Forge
  • You’ll need to save off the latest game variants from your temporary history to take advantage of this!

  • Rumble Pit
    • Lineup rebalanced to offer more kill, less frill.
    • Removed Infection, Safe Havens, Race, Rally, Headhunter Pro
    • Removed “Classic” gametypes
  • Team Slayer
    • Removed all Snipers gametypes
  • Team SWAT
    • Added SWAT Magnums gametype
  • Team Objective
    • Removed 1 Flag Classic

    • Removed the following gametypes from Hemorrhage due to the size of the map with only 8 players:

    • Softkill zones added to the tops of the Sniper buildings
  • Boneyard
    • Modified respawn zones for Slayer gametypes
  • Hemorrhage
    • Modified respawn zones for both bases
    • Respawn timers for all Warthogs on Hemorrhage should now be 120 seconds

Gametypes
  • CTF
    • All CTF gametypes should now have a player respawn of 10 seconds
    • All Classic CTF gametypes now feature Flag At Home To Score and Touch Return
    • Flag At Home To Score disabled for all non-Classic CTF gametypes
    • Modified Flag Return and Flag Reset times:
      • 1 Flag on Small maps use 10 second return and 30 second reset
      • All other CTF gametypes use 30 second return and 45 second reset
  • Assault
    • Assault gametypes now have a player respawn time of 10 or 15 seconds depending on the map

In addition to the Playlist changes, we’re also introducing two new Forge Map Variants with this update, Cliffhanger and Atom. Atom will be on display in the Team Slayer, Team Snipers, Team Objective, Multi Team, and Big Team Battle Playlists. Cliffhanger will be found in Rumble Pit, Team Slayer, Team SWAT, and Team Objective.
