The Halo Humpday Challenge
Bungie Vs. Pioneer!
Every week, we challenge a group of elite killers from the public and private sectors to a best-of-three Halo 2 match. This week, we were challenged by a team from Pioneer Electronics, who, we imagine, were playing Halo 2 on TVs bigger and better than our tiny minds could comprehend. They could probably hear our every footfall on their Dolby plus 7.1 systems. Let me tell you, these games were tougher than the scores tell, and we had an absolute blast.

General Tone of Game :
Exciting and New
Two consecutive weeks where the games were completely enjoyable and fun? What madness is this? The Pioneer Electronics guys were an absolute joy to play against, with good individual skills and excellent teamwork. After a quick warm-up game of Team Slayer on Colossus, we moved onto the main course Team Slayer on Zanzibar . Having 8 players per team opens up a lot of new levels for Slayer games, and I can honestly say I've never played a Zanzibar match over such wide ranging terrain. Sea wall, beach, base, Camp Froman , nowhere was safe.
The Pioneer guys moved around in tight, sensible formations and caught us unaware, attacking us along the sea wall as we headed for their base. They also tried to control the sniper rifle and rockets and while they did that, they held us at bay easily. The problems for Pioneer only started when they did lose control of those vital weapons. Bungie, being greedy and sneaky, basically concentrated solely on that for the rest of the game, and Abe Froman ( Luke Timmins , not the sausage king of Chicago ) picked people off with almost wanton snipey cruelty.
Final Score: 100-84 - the Bungie crew wins, but not by a whole lot.
Assault, Single Bomb
Headlong, Standard Weapons
General Tone of Game :
Long and Long
Wow. This was a long, long game. Although we ended up winning, a couple of weird things happened. Once, lag got so bad that the bomb appeared to reset for a second, but then actually stayed put, catching the Pioneer guys off guard. It was unfair but we had no choice we had to plant that bomb.
There were some really cool moments. Bombs dropping in unexpected places and being defended to the end. Us being forced into a pseudo spawn camp when the bomb dropped right at their base. Those guys totally owning every walkway in town. Then of course we liked it when we won. I even scored. Which is miraculous.
Final Score: 3 bombs to 0 - Bungie wins, but the length of the game tells the real story.
GAME 3: Team Slayer
Coagulation , regular rules, standard weapons
Game Duration: 9:48
General Tone of Game: Lagtacular
Grack. This was kinda one-sided, and has the dubious distinction of being the laggiest game we ever played. I think in the end that the lag worked more in our favor than theirs. If nothing else, the score shows that.
The weirdest stuff happened when Shishka and I went on a Hog rampage. Our Hog was indestructible. We tore around blasting away with impunity for about 10 full minutes. Nobody could put a dent in our hog 'til Shishka, drunk with power, rolled it. Then we blew up. We also only scored three kills, but we enjoyed a pleasant, if noisy drive.
In the end, it was kind of a massacre, but a fun massacre and for the most part very friendly. But basically, we're back, baby.
Final Score: 100 to 53 - Bungie wins by a mile, but the lag sucked.
Next Challenge: This was great. They want a rematch, but it won't be for a while. Penny Arcade keeps talkin' the talk, buttheir clan, (I think it is called Clan SoftLadyBoy) keeps backing down at the last minute. We're calling them out.
