Mythic Community Content Spotlight
Posted by urk at 4/8/2009 2:09 PM PDT
The Community Spotlight is taking a brief siesta for the time being to make way for some custom Mythic Map Pack content in Bungie Favorites. If you and your group have been waiting patiently for your time in the limelight, please bear with us. We want to make certain that when the Mythic Map Pack drops into the Xbox LIVE Marketplace tomorrow, everyone will have a good selection of player created content ready to download and check out.

Limited Time Complimentary Bungie Pro

Before we dig in, we want to let you know about a limited time Bungie Pro offer we'll be running alongside the Mythic Map Pack.  Since Sandbox is all about creating custom content, we thought it might be best for you to have more File Share slots to work with.  While six File Share slots is nothing to sneeze at, twenty-four sounds more like Mythic speed.

Once you obtain the Mythic maps and play them in Matchmaking, we're going to give you a complimentary subscription to Bungie Pro until July of 2009.  If you already have a Bungie Pro subscription, and it expires before July, we're going to extend it out for you until then, free of charge.   Thanks for playing.  We can't wait to see what you slap into your File Share.

Mythic Favorites

For those frothing over the chance to finally get their fingers and thumbs on the Mythic Map Pack specifically for Forging, we’re throwing in two Map Variants that should make the process a little bit easier to begin with.

The first is “SkyBubblePrep” prepared lovingly by Ascendant Justice scribe Vociferous, and the second is “Crypt Stacked” whipped up by our very own FoMan123. Both of these Map Variants are designed to help you squeeze every last drop of Forge goodness out of the objects available in Sandbox’s high and low spaces. These are the canvases you should use when you build in The Sky Bubble and The Crypt, respectively.

The other three Map Variants we're putting on display look less like empty canvases and more like finished works of art.

Remember Me?

Flying Dutchman – Along with its companion Game Variant (also found in Bungie Favorites), Pirates, Flying Dutchman is an expertly crafted, eerily suspended Pirate Ship ready for some kickass Zombie action.  Wanna be the Last Man Standing on top of an awesome crow's nest?  Download this maritime map and make it happen.

Excavation - An amazingly faithful recreation of Halo 2’s Foundation (an amazingly faithful recreation of the Thunderdome maps of Marathon lineage).  Excavation should bring back some memories no matter when you came on board.  Queue it up for download and throw down old school.

Pivotal – Suspended high above the empty dunes of Sandbox, Pivotal provides a play space for symmetrical or asymmetrical games alike.  Offering two clearly lit opposing bases and a central structure, you can fire this up for some Team Slayer or Team Objective Play.  Just make sure you keep your bearings and your feet on solid ground.

While these maps are excellent examples of what can be accomplished in just a few short weeks with Sandbox and The Forge, it should be noted that they are not necessarily finished works. No worries though. If you find a spawn you don’t like, don’t see the weapon you want, or just want to tinker yourself, have at it! Fire up Forge and do your worst.

And since Flying Dutchman is the only map that comes with its very own companion Game Variant, we’re going to slap in some of MLG’s newest Game Variants (v6) so you can download them and practice up before we inject them into Matchmaking in the coming weeks.

Let's See That...In Instant Replay

Saved Films and Film Clips are also getting the Mythic Map Pack treatment, culled from the “Custom Film” tag call to action we posted in the Weekly Update a few weeks back. If you’re looking to check out some more examples of the custom Map Variants that can be whipped up with Forge, these films and clips should give you a nice preview of some of the stuff that’s already swirling around the community.

And Screenshots? Well, you can take a look at those for yourself right now. We've already got a hefty collection of some awesome shots you’ve been snapping on the Mythic Map Pack.

More Mythic Map Pack Content

If this sampler platter has you hungry for more custom content, it’s easy enough to find. We’ve already got quite the collection going. You guys work fast.

Check out all the Mythic Map Pack on its fancy new Project Page. From here you can watch the trailer, check out some more Screenshots, and if you scroll all the way to the bottom, you’ll find links that’ll whisk you away into our collection of content, where you can customize your search to dig up whatever you like.

The Mythic Map Pack drops into Matchmaking tomorrow.  Hopefully, this round of Bungie Favorites will give you an early preview of all the awesome content to come.  When you finally get your hands on the Mythic Map Pack, make sure to download this new content and give it a spin.  More to come.
Mythic 2 Map Pack Coming to Marketplace

Posted by urk at 1/20/2010 10:09 AM PST

Still waiting for the second half of the Mythic Map Pack?

Your wait will be over soon.  As of February 2nd, Heretic, Citadel, and Longshore will be available as a standalone map pack via Xbox LIVE Marketplace.  Read on for more details.

"Microsoft has announced that the Mythic 2 Map Pack, previously only available on the Halo 3: ODST multiplayer disc, will be released on Xbox LIVE on February 2, 2010.

The release of the Mythic 2 Map Pack brings the total number of Halo 3 multiplayer maps to 24.

  • Heretic brings players to familiar ground as the Halo 2 arena Midship returns in Halo 3. The stark interior of the Pious Inquisitor might appear austere on first glance, but Heretic's symmetrical spaces require players to execute complex strategies in order to outplay their opponents.
  • Citadel may be a long abandoned Forerunner stronghold, but its small, symmetrical confines are far from secure. Two opposing bases offer little safety for players looking for solace. Instead, Citadel forces small squads to stay in constant communication, keep their heads on a swivel, and be prepared to adjust combat tactics in close quarters.
  • Longshore lacks the commercial ships that once made it a lucrative port for Old Mombasa, but it still bustles with activity. Designed for large-scale combat and well-suited for smaller affairs, Longshore’s multitude of industrial buildings, elevated walks, and open inlets conspire to create a complex battleground tailored for multiple combat scenarios.

Mythic 2 Map Pack will be available on Xbox LIVE for 800 Microsoft Points.

Additionally, Halo fans can contribute to Bungie’s relief efforts for Haiti by participating in the "Be a Hero" campaign on Xbox LIVE. For every 1,000 people that wear a red heart emblem and play Halo 3 or Halo 3: ODST online today or tomorrow, Bungie will donate $100 to Red Cross, up to $77,000."

Reclaimer 182 - The Mother of Invention

A patchwork plan.

Reclaimer needs access to the UNSC datanets, but first some repairs are in order.  And of course, it's not as simple as just plugging some stuff in or turning a bolt.  That would be far too easy.

'Mythic Recon' Screenshot Contest Over

Posted by urk at 5/4/2009 9:42 AM PDT

Stop your screenshots.

If you submitted a screenshot for the Mythic Recon screenshot contest, sit tight.  We're going to pour through the pile this week, pluck out some winners, and notify them via PM.  Since there were so many participants, please exercise some patience.  We're looking at having our selections made and the winners notified by Friday.

In the meantime, please hold off on PMing us for details.  We won't have any.  You'll just be delaying the process and probably ruling yourself out from consideration.
