The Ultimate Game Music Concert!
Posted by Frankie at 4/20/2006 12:36 PM PDT

Marty O'Donnell, our publicity-shy composer and his long-time musical partner, Mike Salvatori are going to be on hand to sign autographs, CDs and possibly even boobs at the forthcoming PLAY! Video game musical concert premiere in Chicago on May 27th. But that's not all. Far from it, in fact.

Marty's Halo music will be writ large as part of the concert's many video game musical treats. Halo won't be the only music being heard at the show. Arnie Roth, Principal Conductor and Music Director of PLAY!. will be conducting Final Fantasy composer, Nobuo Uematsu's incredible Final Fantasy music, including a live singing performance by Angela Aki, who will sing Final Fantasy XII's theme song, "Kiss Me Good-Bye."

Nobuo Uematsu's appearance isn't just for Final Fantasy fans either Blue Dragon is an Xbox 360 RPG developed by veterans of the video game industry, bringing together Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi with Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama providing character designs, and Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu contributing the soundtrack.

And this is your chance to see and perhaps even meet some of the greatest video game musicians of all time. Your favorite all time video game tunes, from Super Mario to Halo 2, will be represented here both musically and in the persons of their composers. The actual guest list reads like a who's who of important game audio guys. Video game composers Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda, Koji Kondo, Jeremy Soule, Akira Yamaoka, Yuzo Koshiro, Jason Hayes and Marty O'Donnell will all attend the VIP meet and greet in Chicago.

The program specifically includes pieces from the following games and is basically a fanboy dream come true, especially since (at least at the Chicago event) many of the original composers will be present.

  • Final Fantasy
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • The Legend Of Zelda
  • Halo
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Chrono Trigger
  • Chrono Cross
  • World Of Warcraft
  • Kingdom Hearts
  • Shenmue
  • Silent Hill
  • Battlefield 1942
  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Blue Dragon

All of the tunes will be backed up by a video montage of classic moments from games, as well as several interesting surprises. All in all, if you're in or near Chicago and you like video games, this is the chance of a lifetime.
