Coming soon to screens near you

Grind Rider, a new kind of western.  The grit, the sand, the guns, the blood....  it's still the same.  But the horses and six shooters?  Gone the way of the buffalo.

First Class Pictures presents a sneak peek at Grind Rider.  Coming soon to digital displays around the world.

Viewable at Veoh.Com or YouTube.

First Class Pictures is a Bungie.Net community project started by Just Another Fan that involves members of the fan community including some of the Bungie.Net forum ninjas.

Grind Rider will be released in October of 2008.  A full-length dramatic machinima, it is one example of the Bungie statement of "maybe one day the fans will use this to make Macbeth" brought to life.

We hope that this trailer entertains and increases your interest in what really can be done with the Halo 3 Saved Film tool, time and effort.  Stay tuned for more information or visit our group at First Class Pictures.

Legendary Brawl Returns

So many targets, so little time.

Starting right now, Legendary Brawl returns to represent as this weekend's Double EXP playlist du jour. Uh, I mean... Double EXP playlist de la semaine. Or maybe du weekend. Languages are hard.

...Anyway, for those unfamiliar with it, Legendary Brawl is a 12 player free-for all romp through the Legendary maps (with several of the normal maps and Heroic as well). If that description and the name of the playlist are not an indicator, that means that you need at least the Legendary Map Pack if you want to participate. Legendary Brawl is ranked, so this is a great opportunity to get those last couple achievements that you have been so wrongfully denied. Good luck!

Legendary Brawl is available from 11am PDT on Thursday, August 7th until Monday the 11th at 2am. Heroic and Legendary Map Packs required (But not Cold Storage).

lukems writes:

Meet the homegrown Bungie.net Group: The Halo 3 Academy.

The Halo 3 Academy is a Bungie.net group focused on helping other dudes and dudettes through their Halo 3 experience. The Halo 3 Academy's Bungie Favorites entry is now online.

The Halo 3 Academy is a group created to help other players get better. We started in January after helping a few of my friends out and then extended to by recruiting other like minded players who wanted to help other players. Then we opened the group to the public. We grew fairly quickly with several people signing up to get better at Halo 3.

We exist with the sole purpose of helping the community and those members that want to improve their gameplay. We have been very successful so far. We have graduated six players and several others have made mention that the Academy has helped them out tremendously. We have over 25 dedicated Instructors and membership is open to anyone who wants to join. We offer in game lessons, custom games and hold small tournaments. So if you want to improve your gameplay in a friendly community the Halo 3 Academy is the place for you.

After countless hours of blood, sweat, and dead Spartans (and Elites), the Halo Corpse Alphabet has been finished.

On Tuesday July 22 the great folks at I <3 Halo 3 Screenshots unveiled their masterpiece of contorted Spartan and Elite corpses. After nearly a month of tedious work and effort, every letter of the Alphabet along with numbers 0-9, question mark, exclamation mark, and period was created using only dead bodies and the occasional weapon. Coordinator bs angel did a great job with this project and it is truly a piece of mortuary art.

Bungie @ PAX

The Penny Arcade Expo is rapidly approaching and while some of our plans have changed, we are still planning some goodness for fans who plan to attend.

We've been talking up PAX for a few weeks now, asking our fans to mark their calendars and prepare to be showered in Bungie Love as we hunker down in our booth amidst the craziness of the show floor. We're just over a month away from the magical weekend so it's worth reminding everyone that Bungie will be there and we would love to meet you at our booth.

We'll be there in full force in booth #752, conveniently located right next to our friends from Rooster Teeth / Red vs. Blue. Visitors to our patch of real estate can expect to find some brand new Halo 3 multiplayer conent, including chances for hands-on play (crowds permitting of course).  Hardcore fans will also have an opportunity to compete in multiplayer matches against Luke and Shishka for a chance to win Recon armor. In addition, many members of our team will be on hand during the three days of the show to mingle, sign stuff, draw stuff and spread Bungie Love. Of course we also plan to make it rain with prizes and swag on a daily basis.

The FanFest party that was mentioned a few weeks ago has unfortuantely fallen upon hard times.  It saddens me greatly to find ourselves in this situation but we have decided to postpone the FanFest for a later date. Our plans and some dependencies leading up to this party have not materialized as expected so we've been forced to delay things for now. I realize this will come as sad news to many of you, just as our team is bummed out over this turn of events. I can say that the grand return of the Bungie FanFest will happen when the time is right and it will be glorious.  I guess if there's any upside to this, it's that we now have even more loot to distribute at the actual booth.

For the record, we have no plans to make any big announcements or huge reveals at PAX this year. While we will have some Halo 3 multiplayer stuff for you to check out, this is not going to be the "big announcement" many of our fans are clamoring for. Rest assured that when the time is right, we will be making announcements and talking about the stuff we're currently working on. At the moment we do have three distinct projects underway within Bungie - some familiar, some not. Some on a closer horizon, some quite far off.

In the meantime, I encourage any Bungie fans in the area to please stop by our booth and say hello.  In the coming weeks we will post a more definitive schedule of the various actitives taking place in our booth at specific times so you can plan your PAX agenda accordingly.  If you have special requests, people you'd particularly love to meet or anything like that, please share your ideas in the "Discuss This" link attached to this story.  Stay tuned for more updates as PAX gets closer....

There were a lot of great maps submitted in this contest. A lot of great games were played on these maps during the last month. If you missed the chance to download one of them, check out the fileshare for the Pwnathon2o2p tag. They're all there.

Pwnathon2o2p Fileshare:

Winners Include:

- Best Competitive Map: Clearview PKD by ProvingUnique -

Easy to get in the bases, creates fun fast games. The Backdoor Ramps offer secured entry along with access to the Invisibility Bridge which offers great vantage points. The map was named Clearview due to the open shield door view points that allow you to see what's coming to the base before it reaches the base. This map creates intense battles and offers constant action. It's "clear" why this map won its category.

- Best Casual Objective Map: Map of Fury by Jonny12gauge -

Essentially, you can hop on top of your base, hit the first cannon, land almost perfect in the middle man cannon, grab the flag and return via Man Cannons in about 20 seconds or so - round trip. Sure that sounds easy but you're being shot at the whole time, remember. This is often a close game, always a blast. And capping the flag seems to never take just 20 seconds.

- Best Casual Slayer Map:  Hog Mania 2.2 by Spidey2222 -

If you could take pure awesome and breed it with pure pwnage this game would be its offspring. Stickies in every form, check. Warthogs in both forms, check. Mancannons, check. Fusion cores, check. Ability to rack up insane medals, check. Kill limit of 100 that seems too low sometimes, check. This is Spidey2222's adaptation of a classic casual slayer game. The map was started by Jonny12gauge and then perfected into this masterpiece.

- Honorable Mentions -
